Can't speak to 1-800-pack-rat, but we used PODs to move from the Midwest to the southeast. It was super convenient and we were pleased with the customer service. We only stored for about a month but the convenience of having time to figure out where we'd be living was fantastic. We did PODs for a few months. Very convenient.

I’ve also been planning my 600 mile move. Agree with above post that U-haul’s new U-box rates were cheaper than PODS and Pack Rat. I also came across U-Pack Moving. Do your research though, U-haul takes longer than the others and estimated 14 days shipping time.
